The Cecilia Solo and Cecilia A Piacere violin rosins, both from Cremona in America (formerly Andrea Rosin), differ in their formulation and intended playing characteristics, catering to distinct preferences for violinists.

Cecilia Solo is designed for maximum projection and articulation, making it ideal for soloists or players needing a powerful, distinguished sound. It offers a strong grip on the strings, providing a stable bowing sensation even under high bow pressure, without causing "sound cracks." This makes it forgiving yet bold, perfect for standing out in large halls or orchestral settings where clarity and volume are key. Its tone is crisp and direct, with a focus on sensitivity alongside strength.

Cecilia A Piacere, on the other hand, prioritizes a smoother, richer, and more blended sound, often described as "silkier." It’s based on the original Tartini Green formula and aims for effortless bow control and even sound production. While it still provides clear articulation similar to Solo, it has slightly less projection, favoring a warmer, rounder tone over sheer power. It pairs especially well with softer bows and is suited for players seeking a refined, less piercing sound that blends rather than dominates.

In practical terms, Solo is harder (rated around 5/5 on Cecilia’s physical hardness scale) and thrives in hot, dry climates, while A Piacere, slightly softer (around 4/5), leans toward moderate articulation and works well in colder, drier conditions. Solo might feel stickier and leave more residue for aggressive playing, whereas A Piacere offers a lighter touch with less dust, enhancing string crossings and subtlety.

Choosing between them depends on your setup and style: Solo if you want to cut through with bold presence, A Piacere if you prefer a polished, lyrical quality. Both are premium, handmade rosins, unchanged in formula since their Andrea days, just rebranded as Cecilia in 2020.
